Production on Eni's new offshore Abu Dhabi blocks targeted for early 2020s.
Eni is targeting first output in 2022 or 2023 from the two Abu Dhabi offshore blocks it was awarded exploration rights in Saturday, the Italian company's CEO Claudio Descalzi said.
State-owned ADNOC awarded the blocks to Eni and Thailand's PTT in an announcement late Saturday, under its first competitive licensing round. Eni will operate the concessions, and the two partners will invest at least AED 844 million ($230 million).
Should exploration prove successful, ENI and PTT will be given the opportunity to develop and produce any discoveries, with ADNOC retaining an option for a 60% stake.
Eni plans to develop the areas in line with its Ghasha concession, since the blocks will share the same facilities. Eni has a 25% share in the Ghasha sour gas concession. The project is expected to produce more than 1.5 Bcf/day of gas and more than 120,000 b/d of condensate when it comes on stream.
The two blocks it was awarded Saturday are also expected to hold gas and condensates, Descalzi said.
Eni also announced Sunday it had won exploration concessions for three onshore blocks in Sharjah, another emirate in the UAE.
Eni will operate two of the blocks with a 75% participating interest and Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) holding the other 25%. On the third block, SNOC will be the operator, with both SNOC and Eni holding 50% stakes.
In the next five to seven years, the Gulf region is projected to comprise around 35% of Eni's revenue, Descalzi said.
