Anadarko Hit By Rising Costs, Lower Oil Prices

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC) boosted oil production in the fourth quarter, but prices fell, costs jumped and tax expenses weighed on results. 

The company reported fourth-quarter earnings fell to $102 million, or 21 cents a share, from $976 million, or $1.80 a share. 

Anadarko's adjusted profit of 38 cents a share fell short of the 61 cents a share analysts expected, according to FactSet. 

Sales rose 14% to $3.35 billion, more than the $3.31 billion analysts targeted. Anadarko said its average daily sales volume of oil increased 11% in the fourth quarter, but the average selling price dropped to $49.86 a barrel from $56.32 a barrel.
