U.S. oil imports fall to lowest since 1996 on a weekly basis

The U.S. imported the lowest amount of crude oil on a weekly basis in 23 years, as production hit another record.

Weekly crude imports fell 1.61 MMbpd to 5.92 MMbpd, the lowest level in data going back to 1996. Weekly imports from Saudi Arabia hit a record low of 346,000 bopd for the week ending Feb. 22, the Energy Information Administration said in a report Wednesday.
